Miami-based Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has launched the Sylvester Survivorship and Supportive Care Institute.

Frank Penedo, PhD, will serve as the institute’s director alongside Carmen Calfa, MD, as co-director and medical director, according to an Oct. 30 news release from the cancer center. Jessica MacIntyre, DNP, APRN, will lead clinical operations for the institute.

Dr. Penedo also serves as associate director for population sciences and director of Cancer Survivorship and Supportive Care at Sylvester, while Dr. Calfa is a breast cancer medical oncologist and associate professor in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s division of medical oncology.

The institute said it is structured around three pillars: research and outreach, care delivery, and education and training. Post-treatment care offered by the institute includes access to exercise, dietitians, and music, art and massage therapy, as well as psycho-oncology and cancer psychiatry care teams, and social services, the release said.

Wellness clinics provided by the institute offer assessments and referrals for palliative/pain management, rehabilitation, onco-fertility, primary care, lifestyle modification, recurrence surveillance and personalized survivorship care plans.
