Pittsburgh-based UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has opened the Mario Lemieux Immunotherapy Center to expand access to personalized treatments for patients with certain solid tumors.

The center was funded by the Mario Lemieux Foundation, which previously helped establish the Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers and the Lemieux Lymphoma Center for Children and Young Adults, according to a Nov. 13 news release from UPMC.

The immunotherapy center includes 35 exam rooms, 27 treatment chairs and 15 treatment rooms. The expansion will support increased patient volumes and enhanced clinical trial offerings.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
