New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health has opened a dedicated high-dose rate brachytherapy radiation medicine suite at Lake Success, N.Y.-based R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center.
The suite was designed to enhance patient comfort and safety during treatment, according to a Jan. 5 news release from the health system.
HDR brachytherapy delivers highly focused internal radiation directly to a tumor site and is an effective treatment for prostate and gynecologic cancers. The technology minimizes damage to healthy tissues and reduces typical radiation-associated side effects, the release said.
