The WVU Cancer Institute in Morgantown, W.Va., is the first healthcare facility in the state to offer a new therapy for aggressive bladder cancer.
The treatment, Inlexzo, was approved by the FDA in September. The therapy is delivered through a small, temporary system placed in the bladder that allows chemotherapy to remain in place for an extended period.
The institute said the therapy offers an alternative option for patients who cannot tolerate traditional treatments or want to avoid more invasive approaches, according to a Feb. 3 news release.
“For patients facing aggressive bladder cancer with limited treatment options, access to innovative therapies can be transformational,” Ali Hajiran, MD, chief of urologic oncology at the WVU Cancer Institute, said in the release. “Being able to offer treatments like this to our patients here in West Virginia means they can receive cutting-edge care while staying close to their families and support systems.”
