A team from the University of California San Diego has collaborated on the development of an AI model to improve the precision of prostate cancer radiation therapy.

The AI tool matched or outperformed human experts at mapping the urethra on MRI, meaning it could enable physicians to deliver radiation therapy more precisely and reduce urinary side effects, according to a Feb. 27 news release from the university.

The team’s research was published Oct. 25 in Radiotherapy and Oncology.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
