The American Cancer Society has granted $80.7 million in cancer research funding to 71 institutions across the U.S.

The awards will take effect this spring in support of 128 research grants, according to an April 1 news release.

The American Cancer Society is the largest non-government, nonprofit funder of cancer research in the U.S., the release said. The organization’s next grant application deadline is June 1.

Cancer groups have begun responding to the Trump administration’s proposed $15.8 billion cut to HHS included in the fiscal year 2027 budget. The proposal includes a $5 billion funding cut to the National Institutes of Health — of which the National Cancer Institute is a part — amounting to a nearly 13% loss.
