Hospice admission rates at 11 cancer hospitals

Among 11 cancer hospitals exempt from reporting to Medicare’s Inpatient Prospective Payment System, Buffalo, N.Y.-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center had the highest hospice admission rates at 47.2% and 47%, respectively, between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, according to CMS data published May 13.

The national hospice admission rate among the hospitals during the same period was 36.3%.

Eleven cancer hospitals are required to participate in the PPS-Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting Program, a specialized quality reporting program established in 2010 by the ACA.
