Stanford Medicine-based Palo Alto, Calif. plans to build a cancer center that integrates clinical care and research.
The research and care facilities would be connected by skyways, enabling research discoveries to reach the patient bedside more quickly, according to a June 9 news release from Stanford Medicine.
The cancer hospital will have up to 470 inpatient beds and be built alongside an outpatient clinic and research building, all located on the health system’s campus in Redwood City, Calif.
Stanford expects the new facilities to bring about 3,200 to 3,700 jobs to the area.
Planned initiatives for the hub include precision medicine, AI-powered research and expanded clinical trial access.
