Karmanos Cancer Institute sees 47% growth in 5 years

Detroit-based Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute treated 15,754 new cancer cases in fiscal year 2025, marking a 47% increase in new cases since 2020.

The increase marks the highest number of new cancer cases in a fiscal year in the institute’s history, according to a June 22 news release from Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care, of which Karmanos is a part. 

The cancer institute opened 609 clinical trials and enrolled more than 2,700 patients in interventional treatment studies between 2020 and October 2025, the release said.
