Buffalo, N.Y.-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has dosed the first patient in a phase 1 trial of an AI-designed CAR T-cell therapy for ovarian cancer.
The therapy, GB-5267, was developed by Somerville, Mass.-based Generate Biomedicines, according to an Oct. 1 news release from Roswell Park.
Generate Biomedicines used AI to design the therapy based on T-cell behavior, and it is “armored” with an added immune-signaling protein meant to help the cells hold up inside solid tumors, the release said.
The trial is enrolling patients whose ovarian cancer has come back or stopped responding to platinum-based chemotherapy.
Patient cells will be engineered at Roswell Park’s on-site cell manufacturing facility. Emese Zsiros, MD, PhD, chair of gynecologic oncology at Roswell Park, is leading the trial.
At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
