University of Chicago Medicine has completed construction on the AbbVie Foundation Cancer Pavilion, a seven-story, 575,000-square-foot facility on its Hyde Park campus.
The pavilion will be Illinois’ first freestanding facility solely dedicated to cancer care, according to a Sept. 24 news release from UChicago Medicine.
The $815 million project was funded in part by a $75 million gift from the philanthropic arm of drugmaker AbbVie.
The pavilion will include 80 private inpatient beds and is projected to see about 200,000 outpatient visits and 5,000 admissions a year at full capacity.
The health system will spend the coming months equipping clinical areas and preparing staff before the pavilion opens to patients in April 2027, the release said.
