Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has named Eliezer Van Allen, MD, its inaugural chief AI officer.
Dr. Van Allen is a medical oncologist and computational biologist whose work includes developing algorithms to analyze high-dimensional data from cancer patients, according to a Sept. 29 LinkedIn post from Dana-Farber President and CEO Benjamin Ebert, MD.
In the role, Dr. Van Allen will bring together the cancer center’s research, clinical and operational communities around the use of AI. Dana-Farber said its AI efforts span cancer research, clinical practice and institute operations.
Dr. Van Allen has been with Dana-Farber for more than 16 years. He has served as Chandra Nohria Family Chair for AI in Cancer Research since August 2024 and chief of the Division of Population Sciences since September 2021. He previously served as an associate professor, assistant professor, instructor and oncology fellow at Dana-Farber.
