Of 532 hospitals, Detroit-based Karmanos Cancer Center was the only cancer center to achieve a catheter-associated urinary tract infection rate of zero between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2025, according to CMS data published Aug. 13.
Catheter-associated urinary tract infection rates at the 11 cancer hospitals exempt from Medicare’s Prospective Payment System ranged from 0.155 to 1.896 during the same reporting period.
CMS’ Healthcare-Associated Infections database uses certain measures to show how often patients contract certain infections during medical treatment. The measures apply to patients treated in acute care hospitals, including adult, pediatric, neonatal, Medicare and non-Medicare patients.
