40 cancer centers opening, expanding

Here are 40 hospitals and health systems that are opening cancer centers or expanding cancer care services in 2025:

  1. Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy, in partnership with the Cherokee Nation, has broken ground on a cancer center in Fort Smith, Ark. The new facility will house radiation therapy, imaging and infusion services.

  2. Irving, Texas-based Christus Health opened the Christus St. Vincent Regional Cancer Center in Santa Fe, N.M.

  3. Tuscaloosa-based University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing partnered with DCH Health System, also based in Tuscaloosa, to open a supportive care clinic at the system’s Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center.

  4. Lawrence, Kan.-based LMH Health opened a new cancer center, also in Lawrence.

  5. The Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at Las Vegas-based Sunrise Health’s MountainView Hospital opened an outpatient facility to provide advanced blood cancer care.

  6. Ridley-Tree Cancer Center, part of Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, opened the High-Risk Breast Clinic in Santa Barbara, Calif.

  7. Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger opened the Geisinger Cancer Center Dickson City.

  8. Mayo Clinic Jacksonville (Fla.) opened a $320 million cancer center, which will house the first carbon ion therapy program in the Americas.

  9. Central Montana Medical Center opened a cancer center with support from a $9 million grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

  10. Los Angeles-based USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center opened a radiation therapy and imaging center in Newport Beach, Calif.

  11. West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health and New Brunswick, N.J.-based Rutgers Cancer Institute opened the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, also in New Brunswick, on May 13.

  12. University of Louisville (Ky.) Health broke ground on a $25 million cancer center in Shepherdsville, Ky., expected to open in the second half of 2026.

  13. Rockford, Ill.-based Mercyhealth opened the Mercyhealth Cancer Institute, also in Rockford.

  14. Charlottesville, Va.-based UVA Health opened an expanded cancer infusion and clinic space at UVA Health Cancer Care Pantops. 

  15. Hyannis, Mass.-based Cape Cod Healthcare opened the Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion, home to the system’s outpatient Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center. 

  16. Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine will build a $122.6 million outpatient cancer center in Wheeling, W.Va., expected to open in October 2028.

  17. The University of Kansas (Mo.) Cancer Center expanded its service area through the opening of two new care locations in Briarcliff and Liberty, Mo.

  18. Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will establish an ambulatory cancer service center within the new Sturdy Health Cancer and Specialty Care facility in Attleboro, Mass., expected to open in 2026.

  19. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Nemours Children’s Health opened the Lisa Dean Moseley Foundation Institute for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Wilmington, Del.

  20. Baton Rouge, La.-based Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute opened an infusion center in Gonzales, La.

  21. Tampa, Fla.-based Moffitt Cancer Center opened a Nikon Center of Excellence, becoming the first standalone cancer center in the world to do so.

  22. UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Horizon-Shenango Valley in Farrell, Pa. expanded radiation oncology services with the addition of a second linear accelerator.

  23. Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health opened a new Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center facility in Langhorne, Pa.

  24. Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health Cancer Institute of the Midlands opened a new radiation oncology location in Columbia, S.C. 

  25. Tulsa-based University of Oklahoma Health’s Stephenson Cancer Center will open a new facility and Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy’s Fort Smith (Ark.) Hospital will expand patient access to cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment and recovery with a $16 million investment from the Cherokee Nation, the sovereign tribal government of the Cherokee people.

  26. Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke’s University Health Network opened the new Center for Hope and Healing at the St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus Cancer Center in Quakertown, Pa.

  27. West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health and New Brunswick, N.J.-based Rutgers Cancer Institute opened the Breast Health Center in East Brunswick, N.J.

  28. Johnson City, Tenn.-based Ballad Health will expand radiation oncology services at the system’s Greeneville (Tenn.) Community Hospital with a $1 million gift.

  29. Towson, Md.-based Greater Baltimore Medical Center opened the Sandra R. Berman Pavilion, a new home for the hospital’s Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute.

  30. Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals opened the new WVU Cancer Institute at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, W. Va.

  31. Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center opened the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Lebanon (Tenn.).

  32. Lexington, Ky.-based CHI Saint Joseph Health opened a consolidated Cancer Care Center.

  33. Cleveland-based University Hospitals will begin construction on a $39 million cancer hub in the spring. 

  34. Renton, Wash.-based Valley Medical Center opened the first phase of its new cancer center.

  35. Madison, W.Va.-based Boone Memorial Hospital has partnered with Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Cancer Institute to open a new cancer center in late 2025 or early 2026.

  36. Cincinnati-based Mercy Health opened the Urbana (Ohio) Cancer Center.

  37. Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth opened the Freytag Cancer Center at AdventHealth Palm Coast (Fla.) hospital.

  38. Detroit-based Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute opened the Karmanos Cancer Institute-Dearborn (Mich.).

  39. Coral Gables, Fla.-based Baptist Health South Florida is expanding cancer care services to Doral, Fla.

  40. Iowa City-based University of Iowa Health Care acquired Mission Cancer + Blood, a physician-owned oncology practice with more than 20 cancer clinics across the state.
