Tuscaloosa-based University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing has partnered with DCH Health System, also based in Tuscaloosa, to open a supportive care clinic at the system’s Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center.

The program, led by Kristi Acker, DNP, PhD, aims to serve as a replicable care model for hospitals and health systems nationwide, according to a July 1 news release from the university. The academic-practice clinic model will provide clinical experience to more than 350 nursing students.

While currently available only to Manderson Cancer Center patients, DCH Health plans to expand services to more patient populations.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
