The American College of Surgeons has developed an accreditation for rural hospitals that provide cancer care.
Commission on Cancer Rural Cancer Program Accreditation aims to address the approximately 15% higher cancer death rate in rural communities compared to urban areas, according to an Aug. 4 news release from the American College of Surgeons.
Hospitals are eligible to apply for the rural accreditation based on their county’s Rural-Urban Continuum Code.
