American College of Surgeons launches rural cancer accreditation

The American College of Surgeons has developed an accreditation for rural hospitals that provide cancer care. 

Commission on Cancer Rural Cancer Program Accreditation aims to address the approximately 15% higher cancer death rate in rural communities compared to urban areas, according to an Aug. 4 news release from the American College of Surgeons.

Hospitals are eligible to apply for the rural accreditation based on their county’s Rural-Urban Continuum Code
