The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research has established a coalition dedicated to funding cancer research aimed at closing the survival gap between early- and late-stage diagnoses.
The Early Detection Awards were developed in partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research, the Lustgarten Foundation, Break Through Cancer and The Honorable Tina Brozman Foundation, according to a Feb. 3 news release from the AACR.
The coalition will award $12 million across six research projects focused on pancreatic, ovarian and esophageal cancers, and cancer predisposition syndromes.
The 13 cancer centers, health systems and educational institutions participating in the research projects are:
- Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
- Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston)
- Harvard University (Cambridge, Mass.)
- Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore)
- Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York City)
- St. Jude Children’s Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.)
- Stanford (Calif.) University
- University of California Davis
- University of Cambridge (England)
- University Health Network – Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Toronto)
- University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)
- University of Washington (Seattle)
- Weill Cornell Medicine (New York City)
