Aurora-based University of Colorado Anschutz Cancer Center has launched a summer camp aimed at inspiring students to pursue careers in biomedical research.
The program, called Students and Teachers Achieving Cancer Research Experiences Together, or START, was funded by a five-year grant from the National Cancer Institute, according to an Aug. 3 news release from the university.
Almost 300 students entering seventh through 10th grade applied to attend the camp. The cancer center also held a seven-week summer research program for students entering 11th grade and a two-month research program for high school science teachers.
START operates under the cancer center’s Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination office which is led by Eduardo Davila, PhD, and Adela Cota-Gomez, PhD, the release said.
