Salt Lake City-based Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah has launched a care affiliation with Portneuf Cancer Center, part of Pocatello, Idaho-based Portneuf Medical Center.

Through the partnership, Portneuf Cancer Center will integrate Huntsman Cancer Institute’s clinical expertise and treatment protocols into its existing oncology services. Portneuf patients will also have expanded access to Huntsman’s clinical trials, according to a June 1 news release.

“This affiliation represents a shared promise between Huntsman Cancer Institute and Portneuf Cancer Center that despite the challenges of providing specialty care across large distances, it is possible to achieve this through collaboration and an unwavering focus on patients and community,” Sachin Apte, MD, chief clinical officer and physician-in-chief at Huntsman Cancer Institute, said in the release.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
