South Bend, Ind.-based Beacon Health System and the University of Notre Dame (Ind.) are partnering on a multiyear oncology research collaboration.

The organizations will develop “health-focused research projects” in oncology and health data, according to an Oct. 16 system news release. The university will lead research efforts, while Beacon will oversee indirect and direct clinical care. The collaboration aims to drive innovation in patient care, disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and improve recruitment of physicians and researchers interested in clinical research.

Currently, the Harper Cancer Research Institute at Notre Dame and Beacon are hiring a chief of oncology and associate director for clinical and community research, both of whom will be jointly appointed between the institutions in a first for the partners.
