A new law ensures Iowa City-based University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital will receive up to $3 million per year for pediatric cancer research through a tax on vape and other alternative nicotine products.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, signed the bill into law May 26. The law takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.
The funding will be used to conduct pediatric cancer research, expand clinical therapy access and establish physician scientist leadership at Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
