Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham has named David Ryan, MD, as the inaugural president of the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute.

He has been with the health system for more than two decades, serving as physician-in-chief for the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute for the past year, according to an April 2 news release from the hospital.

Dr. Ryan has also served as chief of hematology/oncology and clinical director of the Mass General Cancer Center beginning in 2012, the release said.

Mass General is investing $400 million to establish the new cancer institute, which aims to be fully operational by fall 2028. The new institute will mark the end of the system’s long-standing partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
