The five-year project launched in June and will first chart barriers rural residents face in accessing cancer care and creating a chemotherapy program and infusion site at Barrett Hospital in Dillon.

The infusion suite is expected to open in fall 2023, according to the report.

The collaboration received $1.9 million from the Merck Foundation as part of its effort to help underserved communities nationwide.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
