In 2026, New York will become the first U.S. state to require many large group health insurance policies to cover scalp-cooling treatment for patients undergoing chemotherapy, according to an Oct. 6 report from ABC News.
Scalp cooling works by reducing the amount of chemo that can reach — and subsequently damage — hair follicles.
The treatment has an average cost of between $1,500 and $5,000 per patient and a success rate of up to 65%, the report said.
