Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health Cancer Institute has become the first facility in the U.S. to employ Varian’s RapidArc Dynamic technology, a radiation therapy tool designed to deliver more precise tumor targeting.
The technology builds on capabilities of the Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator. RapidArc Dynamic enables the beam to pause at any point during treatment, allowing for higher dosing accuracy and greater preservation of healthy tissue, according to a Dec. 1 news release from the health system.
Nearly all patients eligible for radiation oncology may benefit from the therapy, the release said.
