Oklahoma City-based OU Health has become the first health system in Oklahoma to offer fertility preservation for prepubescent boys before cancer treatment.
Through testicular tissue cryopreservation, immature tissue can be stored and transported to the University of Pittsburgh for preservation. There the tissue will be “stored until future scientific advances allow it to be matured into functional sperm for reproductive use,” according to a Jan. 20 news release from OU Health.
OU Health became the first health system in Oklahoma to offer ovarian tissue cryopreservation for women and girls in 2024.
