Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine has established the King Center for Lynch Syndrome at the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center.
The center is the first of its kind in the world and was established through a $10 million gift from Cynthia King, the late Jeffery King, and Jason and Julie Borrelli, according to a March 3 news release from Penn Medicine.
Lynch syndrome is hereditary condition that increases an individual’s risk of developing certain cancers and affects about 1.2 million people in the U.S.
Penn Medicine has provided Lynch syndrome care for about 1,000 individuals and enrolled more than 400 in clinical research studies, the release said.
