New Brunswick, N.J.-based Rutgers Cancer Institute has tapped Joseph Contessa, MD, PhD, to serve as chair of radiation oncology for the institute, as well as for the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Contessa will also serve as associate director for translational research at Rutgers Cancer Institute, according to an Aug. 6 news release from the health system.
He previously served as professor of therapeutic radiology and co-leader of New Haven, Conn.-based Yale Cancer Center’s Radiobiology and Genome Integrity Research program.
Dr. Contessa succeeds Bruce Haffty, MD, who has served as radiation oncology chair since 2005. Dr. Haffty will continue to serve as system director of radiation oncology for RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute, the release said.
