South Dakota system receives $10M in federal funding for rural cancer care

Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Health has received more than $10 million in federal funding to improve rural cancer care services. 

The system will purchase a fixed PET/CT scanner for the Avera Cancer Institute in Yankton, S.D., and replace linear accelerators in three regional hubs, according to a Feb. 20 news release from the health system. 

A portion of the funds will also be used to replace the boiler and water heating systems at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill, Neb.
