The World Health Organization has redesignated Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Childhood Cancer.
Of the more than 800 WHO collaborating centres worldwide, St. Jude is the only collaborating centre dedicated to pediatric cancer, according to a June 17 news release from the hospital.
St. Jude and WHO will continue to work toward at least 60% survival for children with cancer by 2030, while also focusing on policy and systems science, palliative care and other catastrophic pediatric diseases, the release said.
Only two other U.S. organizations have received WHO designations related to cancer: the University of Miami as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Cervical Cancer Elimination and the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Global Cancer Control.
