Baltimore-based University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center will launch a cancer researcher training program through a $3 million National Cancer Institute grant.

The Advancing Oncologic Research Communities in Health Equity program will support early-career faculty and postdoctoral fellows who are interested in pursuing cancer research, according to a March 27 news release from the University of Maryland.

The $3 million award will be distributed over a five-year period to three principal investigators: Taofeek Owonikoko, MD, executive director of UMGCCC; Stuart Martin, PhD, deputy director of UMGCCC; and Rebecca Nowak, PhD, associate professor of epidemiology and public health at the University of Maryland.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
