UK Markey Cancer Center director to lead medical society

The American Surgical Association has named B. Mark Evers, MD, director of Lexington-based University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, as president-elect. 

Dr. Evers will serve as the society’s president-elect for one year before assuming the presidency in 2027, according to an April 27 news release from the University of Kentucky. 

Dr. Evers began serving as director of the UK Markey Cancer Center in 2009, leading it through its National Cancer Institute cancer center and comprehensive cancer center designations in 2013 and 2023, respectively.
