Unplanned readmission rates of PPS-exempt cancer hospitals

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center had the lowest 30-day unplanned readmission rate of cancer hospitals exempt from reporting to Medicare’s Inpatient Prospective Payment System.

Eleven PPS-exempt cancer hospitals are required to participate in the PPS-Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting Program, a specialized quality reporting program established in 2010 by the ACA. 

Here are the 30-day unplanned readmission rates of cancer patients at PPS-exempt cancer hospitals between Oct. 20, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2022, according to CMS data.

  3. City Of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital (Duarte, Calif.) – 19.6
  4. University Of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) –  20.5
  5. Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases (New York City) – 20.9
  6. Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute (Tampa, Fla.) – 21.5
  7. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston) – 21.6
  8. University of Miami (Fla.) Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center – 21.9
  9. Fox Chase Cancer Center (Philadelphia) – 22.7
  10. Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital & Richard J. Solove Research Institute (Columbus) – 23
