Atlanta-based Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University has administered the first dose of an investigational in vivo CAR-T cell therapy for the treatment of relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma as part of a clinical trial.

The clinical trial for the drug, KLN-1010, first opened in Australia, according to a May 13 news release from the cancer institute.

In vivo CAR-T therapy is designed to generate CAR-T cells directly inside a patient’s body, cutting down time to treatment by avoiding the need for cells to be collected and manufactured before treatment can begin.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
