Of all 11 prospective payment system-exempt cancer hospitals, Buffalo, N.Y.-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Houston-based University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center had the highest patient engagement rate — 94% — between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, according to CMS data published Aug. 13.
The national patient engagement rate for the same period was 73%.
Patient engagement rates are measured by the percentage of cancer patients who died during the reporting period that had their care goals documented before death.
Eleven cancer hospitals are required to participate in the PPS-Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting Program, a specialized quality reporting program established in 2010 by the ACA.
