UW Health’s Eastpark Medical Center in Madison, Wis., is on track to become one of the first sites in the world to offer upright proton therapy, with treatment expected to begin in summer 2026.

The health system completed construction of its proton therapy space at Eastpark Medical Center in May and installed the upright proton therapy positioning system in September.

The outpatient facility will offer traditional proton therapy services in spring 2026, with upright proton therapy services launching next summer. This method allows patients to receive highly precise radiation therapy in a more comfortable, seated position.

Eastpark Medical Center, which opened in October 2024, offers more than 40 care specialties, including oncology services provided through the UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center, according to a Nov. 24 news release.
