The proposal is a $37 million increase — or 60 percent — from last year’s budget, according to a Dec. 8 press release. The move comes after Ms. DeSantis was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.
Ms. DeSantis made the announcement during a roundtable discussion at Tampa-based Moffitt Cancer Center with Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, MD, PhD, and center representatives.
The funding will be used to forward cancer care and research at three cancer institutes throughout the state: Moffitt Cancer Center, University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and University of Florida Health Cancer Center in Gainesville.
