Eleven PPS-exempt cancer hospitals are required to participate in the PPS-Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting Program, a specialized quality reporting program established in 2010 by the ACA.

Healthcare associated infections are measured by a standard infection ratio, which compares the observed number of infections to the number of predicted infections.

Here are the MRSA infection rates of PPS-exempt cancer hospitals between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2023, according to CMS data:

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Buffalo, N.Y.): 0.188

University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston): 0.458

USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center (Los Angeles): 0.546

Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital & Richard J. Solove Research Institute (Columbus, Ohio): 0.584

Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases (New York City): 0.611

Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute (Tampa, Fla.): 0.677

City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital (Duarte, Calif.): 0.898

Fox Chase Cancer Center (Philadelphia): 0.918

Standardized MRSA infection ratios were not available in CMS’ data for Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Seattle-based Fred Hutchinson Cancer Institute and University of Miami (Fla.) Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
