San Francisco-based UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Stanford (Calif.) Cancer Institute have established a new research collaborative, the Weill Cancer Hub West.
United by a $100 million matching grant from the Weill Family Foundation, UCSF and Stanford have each committed to raising $50 million over the next 10 years, bringing the total funding amount to $200 million, according to a July 23 news release from UCSF.
“By unifying the research within a collaborative hub, the initiative will forge partnerships that break down silos and foster collaboration among innovative scientific leaders,” the release said.
The first four projects of the Weill Cancer Hub West will focus on cellular therapy innovation, leveraging AI, optimizing diet and drug interventions, and precision cancer care.
In March, a $50 million gift from the Weill Family Foundation helped to launch the Weill Cancer Hub East, a cancer research collaborative connecting New York City-based Weill Cornell Medicine, Princeton (N.J.) University, New York City-based Rockefeller University and New York City-based Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research.
