The University of Chicago Medicine has launched a center dedicated to rare blood cancers.

Led by UChicago Medicine hematologist/oncologist Michael Drazer, MD, PhD, as director, the Miller Family Center for Rare Blood Cancers began operations in July, according to a Dec. 9 news release from the health system.

Samuel Volchenboum, MD, PhD, a professor of pediatrics and associate chief research informatics officer for the university’s biological sciences division, will lead a team within the center to create a data commons for rare blood cancers.

The center was established through a gift from philanthropists Mark and Maureen Miller, the release said.
