Fred Hutch funds 10 cancer prevention programs in Washington

Seattle-based Fred Hutch Cancer Center awarded 10 cancer prevention projects in Washington.

The center provided $15,000 to each project through its community grants program, according to an April 13 system news release. This year had a record number of project proposals, and the latest awards focus on projects designed to address social determinants of health.

Here are the 2026-2027 community grant awardees and their goals:

  • Cancer Can’t: Create a hotel partnership program for cancer patients traveling to Spokane for treatment.
  • Cancer Pathways: Building culturally responsive, medically validated online curricula for HPV prevention and education for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • CHAS Health Foundation: Culturally centered cancer screening and education for four communities in Spokane County.
  • Chinese Information and Service Center: CISC family caregiver support program expansion project that will provide workshops focused on early cancer detection, healthy lifestyle practice and emotional support.
  • Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation: PÍNÁP’X (Be Aware), designed to strengthen cancer awareness, screening, and access to care to Native American adults on the Yakama Reservation.
  • Congolese United Foundation: Expanding cancer awareness and screening for Congolese and Angolan immigrants in King County.
  • International Community Health Services: Partnering with local community-based organizations to host linguistically accessible outreach events.
  • Pacific Islander Community Association of Washington: Building a culturally rooted network of community health workers serving Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in Eastern Washington.
  • Pink Lemonade Project: Develop comprehensive breast cancer curriculum tailored to the needs and experiences of Black/African American communities in Pierce County.
  • WhidbeyHealth Foundation: Reduce delays in specialist care for Island County residents through telehealth infrastructure.
