Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center — part of UHealth University of Miami Health System — has launched a weight loss program for cancer survivors.

Restoring Energy, Nutrition, Exercise and Wellbeing, also called RENEW, is a 12-week weight management program designed to address the complex, individualized needs of cancer survivors after treatment, according to an April 22 news release from the cancer center.

The weight loss program was inspired in part by Sylvester’s 20-week Believe in You program, which trains cancer survivors to walk, run or ride in the NFL’s largest philanthropy event, the Dolphins Cancer Challenge.

RENEW will focus on nutrition, individualized exercise plans and behavioral changes to promote weight loss. Sylvester care teams will collaborate with the weight management clinic at UHealth to refer cancer survivors who may need guided medical therapy or surgical care.

At the Becker's Perioperative Summit, taking place September 14–15 in Chicago, perioperative leaders and healthcare executives will focus on improving operating room efficiency, enhancing patient safety, optimizing staffing and driving innovation across surgical services.
