Gastonia, N.C.-based CaroMont Health has begun construction on the CaroMont Cancer Center, a 125,000-square-foot facility on the campus of CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

Five things to know:

1. The project is part of a $200 million investment in oncology care and is the second largest investment in the health system’s history, according to a May 15 health system news release.

2. The facility will house medical oncology, radiation therapy, imaging and diagnostics, physician practices, laboratory, pharmacy and supportive care services in one location.

3. The cancer center is expected to double CaroMont Health’s oncology capacity and position the system to serve approximately 3,000 new cancer patients each year across Gaston County and the surrounding region.

4. The project is the centerpiece of a broader $200 million oncology investment that also includes a new hematology and oncology physician office and a new radiation therapy center, pending certificate-of-need approval, on the campus of CaroMont Regional Medical Center–Belmont. The investments are intended to create a connected oncology network across Gastonia, Belmont and Lincolnton.

5. CaroMont Health said its cancer programs currently provide care to more than 1,500 patients each year across five counties and two states. The health system also opened CaroMont Regional Medical Center–Belmont in January 2025 as part of a commitment to invest more than $300 million in construction and expansion projects across Gaston County.
