The Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute has enrolled more than 11,000 patients in its Biomarker Moonshot Cancer Research Program.
Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network launched the biomarker program in 2020 to create “one of the most comprehensive real-world cancer data and biospecimen repositories in a community-based healthcare network,” according to a June 11 news release from Allegheny Health Network.
The program enrolls about 250 patients per month systemwide across a variety of disease sites and stages. Patient blood and tissue undergoes routine genomic testing, and the resulting data is integrated into the EHR.
“The initiative has also laid the groundwork for AHN’s long-term goal of developing a personalized blood test applicable across cancer types,” the release said. The program “is preparing to expand into studies of high-risk populations, with the aim of advancing earlier cancer detection and prevention.”
