Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both based in Boston, will transition to a new care model for breast cancer services, effective Oct. 19.
Outpatient breast oncology services will be provided at Dana-Farber, while breast cancer surgical services will be provided by surgeons at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, according to an Oct. 15 news release from Dana-Farber.
The breast cancer surgical team will be led by Elizabeth Mittendorf, MD, PhD, chief of the division of breast surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; chief of multidisciplinary oncology at Dana-Farber; and co-leader of the Breast Program for the Boston-based Harvard Cancer Consortium.
Other cancer treatment areas will transition to new care models through a phased approach over the next several years as part of Dana-Farber and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s cancer care partnership.
The cancer care collaboration includes a $1.68 billion cancer hospital currently under construction. The 300-bed facility will be owned and operated by Dana-Farber and clinically supported in collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians.
