Columbus-based OhioHealth has opened the Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Clinic, a site designed to speed up cancer testing and specialist referrals.

The clinic, located inside the OhioHealth Bing Cancer Center, opened July 6, according to a July 31 health system news release. The clinic serves patients who have abnormal imaging or lab results, a new lump, mass or swelling, unexplained weight loss, or a provider referral.

“One of the hardest parts for patients isn’t always the diagnosis itself, but the uncertainty that comes before it,” Meghan Newman, PA-C, director of advanced practice providers at OhioHealth, said in the release. “The clinic will help shorten that period of waiting by giving patients one team to guide them through the process and help find answers as quickly as possible.”

If testing confirms cancer or another condition, the clinic’s team builds a personalized care plan and connects the patient directly to a treatment team. The clinic follows evidence-based guidelines from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network to guide its evaluations, the release said.

The clinic sits inside a cancer program OhioHealth has steadily built out over more than a decade. The system opened the Bing Cancer Center in 2012 as a $9.5 million outpatient facility on the Riverside Methodist Hospital campus, and it plans to open a $226 million outpatient cancer center set in 2029.
