Founding CEO of Miami Cancer Institute, cancer surgeon, dies

Michael Zinner, MD, cancer surgeon, founding CEO and executive medical director of the Miami Cancer Institute at Coral Gables, Fla.-based Baptist Health South Florida, died Oct. 25 from stage 4 pancreatic cancer at age 80.

Before founding the institute in 2015, Dr. Zinner served as clinical director and surgeon-in-chief at Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital, according to an Oct. 26 report from the Miami Herald

He also held leadership roles throughout his career, most notably at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins, the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center and UCLA Hospital Systems.
