The review covers the most recent approaches to melanoma care, practice-changing studies and areas of controversy, as well as examines international guidelines alongside current recommendations, according to a Feb. 10 news release from Fox Chase.

Fox Chase review authors were Jeffrey Farma, MD, chair of the department of surgery, and Anthony Olszanski, MD, vice chair of clinical research in the department of hematology/oncology. Moffitt Cancer Center authors were Jane Messina, MD, senior member in the departments of anatomic pathology and cutaneous oncology and Vernon Sondak, MD, chair of the department of cutaneous oncology.

“The landscape for treating patients with melanoma has changed very dramatically, even over the last two years,” Dr. Farma said in the release. “We’re now really considering how to, in some respects, de-escalate care. This means we can perform less aggressive operations, with less risks, because of the immunotherapy that we are giving before surgery.”
