MD Anderson names chief scientific officer

Houston-based University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has appointed Albert Koong, MD, PhD, chief scientific officer effective June 1.

Dr. Koong has served as interim chief scientific officer since Jan. 1, according to a May 21 news release from the cancer center. 

He joined MD Anderson nine years ago and has held multiple leadership roles, including division head of radiation oncology.

“Dr. Koong has consistently demonstrated exceptional capability and strategic insight, and he has a true commitment to teamwork, transparency and innovation,” Peter Pisters, MD, president of MD Anderson, said in the release. “I am confident that he will keep MD Anderson at the forefront of cancer science.”
