Moffitt Cancer Center to open new research center

Tampa, Fla.-based Moffitt Cancer Center is set to open a new research center on its innovation campus in Land O’ Lakes, Fla., CBS affiliate WTSP reported Oct. 8. 

The new 250,000-square-foot Moffitt Discovery and Innovation Center, located on the system’s Speros campus, will feature 20 faculty labs and 12 shared resource facilities. It will bring together about 250 research scientists from various disciplines to better understand cancer and accelerate treatments. Roughly 60% of the building is complete, and the ribbon-cutting is set for Oct. 22.

Its new Speros campus is a 775-acre innovation campus that is expected to create more than 11,000 jobs by 2033. Moffitt expects to have 2,400 team members on the campus by the end of 2026.
